Did "Small Business Saturday" Make a Difference?

I came across a decent balanced analysis of American Express' Small Business Saturday campaign on http://www.newsy.com/ . The response from small business owners seems mixed. It certainly seems like a good idea to raise awareness of the impact of spending in local stores - but I do wonder whether the campaign did anything to change customer shopping habits or if it was just good PR. What do you think? Did the campaign work? Or do you have suggestions for how American Express can improve next year?

  2. Someone just told me that Am Ex is now offering $25 back to Cardmembers who register & use their card at a small business ANY day through 12/31. Hmm...maybe this will make more of a difference.

  3. I LOVE the idea behind the campaign however I did not hear about it until Sunday, thus not really being able to do much on Saturday. Maybe they should do more of a PR push and even have literature for the merchants to hang up in windows. I am all for keeping the small businesses open and thriving

  4. Tammy - I agree. Many have mentioned that the marketing was focused on consumers rather than business owners. Maybe next year they'll focus their efforts on engaging merchants?
